Personal, Social, Health and Emotional
Intent
Our curriculum equips children with the skills and knowledge to become critical thinkers, form educated opinions, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. By nurturing these skills and attributes, we empower children to enhance their well-being and appreciate the value of every individual within society.
Our scheme fully covers the objectives outlined in the Personal Social Health Emotional (PSHE) Association programme of study and complements our existing Relationship and Sexual Education (RSE) scheme, ensuring a well-rounded and cohesive curriculum.
Implementation
The curriculum is structured into three key areas:
- health and well-being
- relationships, and
- living in the wider world.
It is carefully planned to include skill-building games, books, and videos that enrich children’s understanding of topical and sensitive issues. We promote structured discussions that encourage children to question, challenge, and respect one another, preparing them to thrive as active, responsible members of modern Britain.
Impact
Through this curriculum, children develop the vocabulary and confidence to express their thoughts and feelings openly within a supportive and respectful environment. They learn to recognize when to seek help and support from others. Children apply their understanding of society to their interactions within various communities—from the classroom to the wider world.
Our school culture prioritizes physical and mental health and well-being, equipping children with the skills to assess and manage their own well-being needs, practice self-care, and contribute positively to the well-being of those around them.
Ultimately, this holistic approach positively impacts the whole child, supporting academic development and progress by reducing social and emotional barriers to learning while fostering confidence and self-esteem.
