Intent

Our teaching aims to equip our children with skills and knowledge to become critical thinkers, have informed opinions and build an understanding of themselves and of the world. By developing these skills and attributes, children will be able to enhance their well-being and see value in each and everybody in society.

Our scheme covers all objectives set out in the PSHE  association programme of study and works alongside our current RSE scheme to ensure a varied and consolidated curriculum.

Implementation

Our teaching is broken down into 3 areas: Health and Well-being, Relationships and Living in the Wider World. Our curriculum is planned carefully to include skill building games, books and videos to enhance understanding of topical and sensitive issues. We will promote structured discussions that encourage children to question, challenge and respect each other so they can take their place in modern Britain.

Impact

Children are enabled to develop vocabulary and confidence to articulate their thoughts and feelings in a climate of openness, trust and respect and know when to seek support from others. They will apply their understanding of society to their interactions within communities, from the classroom to the wider community of which they are part of. Our school culture will prioritise physical, mental health and well-being, providing children with the skills to evaluate and understand their own well-being needs, practice self-care and contribute positively to the well-being of those around them.

We hope that this will then have a positive impact on the whole child, including their academic development and progress, by mitigating any social and emotional barriers to learning and building confidence and self-esteem.
