Art World Day April 2022
For this year’s Art World day at Rutherford House School we focused upon the Japanese artists Yayoi Kusama. She covered the world in dots using different surfaces as her canvases: walls, pumpkins, people’s bodies, etc. We listened to the story book about her work and her life, we watched videos about her life. For some pupils, this knowledge built upon knowledge gained during visits to Tate Modern at the start of the academic year.
Each year group could choose two activities involving different art forms, e.g. printing, collage, sculpture, painting and drawing. As well as developing their visual language and artistic skills, pupils were able to make cross-curricular links, e.g. English, PSHE, Well-being and Geography.

Intent
At Rutherford House we believe every child is an artist as everyone can use their creativity and imagination to create different masterpieces, we want them to enjoy their artistic journey no matter what the end result is. We hope that by the end of Year 6 every child has been to an Art Gallery giving them the opportunity to explore different technics and artists.
Implementation
We have an amazing group of teachers who are passionate about art, planning exciting and creative art lessons according to the National Curriculum. Children will feel inspired by the work of great artists as well as being offered a wide range of media to express themselves.
This year we are aiming for the Art Awards as a way of inspiring young people to grow their arts and leadership talents.
Impact
We want all the children to be independent using their art skills and get engaged in a wide range of projects each year. Throughout all the projects happening at school and the opportunity to acquire the Arts Certificate Awards for each child we hope children feel a boost of confidence in self-expression in their artistic journey and feel even more passionate about arts.
Here are the overviews for Art and D&T for each year group.
