Rutherford House School is a vibrant school in the heart of Balham, South London. We put all our children at the heart of everything we do whilst providing a first-class education, so that the pupils can learn, enjoy and succeed. Our school is a place that inspires and engages children’s minds and hearts. We believe in democracy and the laws of the country, where every individual has a voice that is heard and respected.
To realise our vision, our aim is to empower all stakeholders: children, staff, parents trust and the Local Governing Board, to understand and embody our school values. Through our enriched curriculum, we nurture a love of learning and develop their skills in order to sustain life-long learning as well as strong self-belief. All students who graduate from Rutherford House School are well-rounded, independent and confident in all they choose to do, ready for the next phase of their learning journey. We expect pupils to have made the most of their learning opportunities and to have enjoyed the experience.
Net Zero Accelerator Programme
Rutherford House School has been selected to be part of the Net Zero Accelerator Programme, which works with 50 schools across the UK, to find, and scale up across the country, decarbonisation initiatives across the education estates.
The Net Zero Accelerator Programme is part of the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, working with a range of partners including the National Education Nature Park, the Sustainability Support for Education Hub, Climate Ambassadors, and Let’s Go Zero’s as part of a coordinated mission.
Overseen by LocatED, the government’s education property experts, the programme will work to:
– Enable climate resilience by reducing harmful carbon emissions
– Make cost savings by reducing energy consumption
– Reduce waste inefficiency
– Create shared learning experiences on climate action change
– Set the standard for a net zero accelerator national rollout.
The funding will enable us to make changes to our schools’ building to reduce energy and carbon emissions, for example by improving heating and lighting efficiency, buying cheaper and greener energy, improving insulation, converting lighting to LED.
The programme experts will also be working with our teachers and pupils to develop Climate Action Plans, evaluating and setting out immediate changes to how you use our school building, directly impacting the reduction of energy consumption and carbon emissions.
